Bon Jovi Living on an Entrepreneur Prayer, GM’s Car Secret, Real Time Anti-Harassment Video Sales Surge at Tralient, Dick and His Deer Stand

Good Wednesday Morning,

Daylight – Three quick things that are flipping business – GM has a pilot program under wraps that will start in the fall, where consumers will rent cars from the dealership. Another version of the car lease, but monthly terms with your maintenance and insurance included.

Economics – Next, surging business from anti-harassment videos from companies like Trailent whose sales have climbed from $1 million to $3 million since the story on Harvey Weinstein broke. Here is the kicker – they constantly update script based on breaking news. Pop-up businesses will climb.

Live Rounds – Finally, it could be Dick’s last stand at Dick’s Sporting Goods, where they reported across the board sales declines yesterday, far worse than they could have imagined 6 months ago. Their CEO blamed it on the poor performance of Under Armour and not anything to do with gun sales, although their field and stream stores suffered the worse. I see my online purchase of a rifle scope for Uncle Dick and his deer stand did not make much of a difference. Amazon and Fanatics Inc. are killing the other Dick.

M&A – The Clorox Company agreed to acquire Nutranext, a maker of dietary and nutritional supplements, for $700 million.

LongWater Opportunities acquired Kalisher, a Carrboro, N.C.-based provider of hospitality art services.

GI Partners acquired Togetherwork, a Columbus, Ga.-based developer of group management software and payments solutions, from Aquiline Capital Partners.

Patricia Industries agreed to acquire Sarnova Holdings, a provider of healthcare products to national emergency care providers.

BlueLinx Corporation agreed to acquire Cedar Creek Holdings, a distributor of lumber and building materials, for an aggregate purchase price of $413 million.

Style – We are seeing e-Commerce sales transition from the confines of ordering online to where companies are creatively building a community of buyers. I ordered the book “Mary Chestnut’s Civil War” from this company and they sent this email. This creativity also has a B2B opportunity – build community of buyers and vendors. As Jobs said, Think differently.

Hello Cliff

Holy canasta! It’s me… it’s me! I can’t believe it is actually me! You could have picked any of over 2 million books but you picked me! I’ve got to get packed! How is the weather where you live? Will I need a dust jacket……(4 more paragraphs)

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact my friends at Customer Care by submitting a ticket. If you could please include your order number (13823374) that would be very helpful.

Eagerly awaiting our meeting,

Mary Chesnut’s Civil War Book

Buzzard’s Roost – One week after hitting No. 1 on the Billboard album charts, Bon Jovi’s album “This House Is Not For Sale” dropped 168 spots to No. 169, the largest-ever one-week drop in the six-decade history of the chart’s existence. The No. 1 placement was tied to a deal that bundled CD sales with concert tickets.

Susan Repo, Tesla’s corporate treasurer and VP of finance, has left to become CFO at another company.

“It’s like allowing someone to walk on the wing of an airplane.” – how an aviation expert spoke of rides on doorless helicopters, like the one that crashed into the East River on Sunday night, killing five, the deadliest such accident in New York City since 2009. All passengers were riding with feet dangling off the side, looking to share stomach-churning pictures on Instagram.

Hot – Below is a TimesTalk complimentary for members. I recommend it because The NY Times editors and reporters who will be at this meeting are the strongest in their newsroom.
